About Experiences of Unemployment
This page is intended to offer information to further the understanding of those dealing with the anxiety of job loss, those involved with individuals experiencing job loss, and, in particular, the stress we feel when being unemployed.
Joblessness is not a universal experience that is the same for every individual. Even for the same person, one episode of unemployment may differ—in circumstances, environment, and in one’s own state—from a previous episode of unemployment. Basically, unemployment experiences are highly individualized.
At the same time, we can discover commonalities. Let us organize, from two perspectives, the possible stress associated with experiencing job loss. Then, we will introduce the requirements to overcome each form of stress.
